As a follow up to our discussion on SAP’s approach to generative AI, we will take a look at the specific generative AI integrations SAP is implementing for late 2023/early 2024:
Joule
In our last post, we discussed how SAP plans to prioritize cloud and generative AI integration. Soon to be integrated on the public SAP S/4HANA Cloud through the SAP cloud enterprise portfolio (it is already on SAP SuccessFactor solutions and the SAP Start site!), Joule is an example of this effort.1
Joule primarily assesses data from various systems and considers their context to deliver intelligent, business-centered insights. The assistant will be included in a variety of SAP applications, such as procurement, supply chain, and HR.
At its core, Joule prioritizes user experience, responding intelligently to everyday language queries across various aspects of business (sales performance, supply chain issues, etc.)
Generative AI Hub
SAP has also been developing and introducing the generative AI hub, which allows businesses to employ various large language models—and use any combination of them.2 With these language models, an employee can provide a prompt and compare the generated results to find the best option. The hub focuses on secure, efficient experimentation, engineering, and application development within BTP.
Recently, SAP also introduced the generative AI hub to SAP AI Core, allowing employees to further streamline business processes.3
Customer Relationship Management
In December 2023, various generative AI integrations with the SAP Sales Cloud Version 2 and Service Cloud Version 2 served to transform Customer Relationship Management.4 For instance, SAP has provided a Case Interaction Summary, which allows employees to summarize correspondence between customers and support representatives in a simple paragraph. Additionally, the Email Draft Recommender considers prior communication to provide emails relevant to the recipients and their situations. The Lead Booster provides intelligent insights for leads, so the sales agent can more easily turn them into opportunities. Finally, the Account Synopsis allows sales and service representatives to quickly view sales accounts and create accurate assessments for their next course of action.
Spend Management
Finally, a recent article from SAP News Center details some additional generative AI integrations for spend management.5 For instance, starting early 2024 the Spend Control Tower will use generative AI with data to find ways to streamline business processes and eliminate unnecessary spending. Additionally, SAP is using generative AI to provide risk assessments, particularly for suppliers through SAP’s various Ariba software solutions. In early 2024, SAP will also integrate their Ariba Sourcing solution with Scoutbee GmbH. This generative AI integration, Scoutbee Discovery, uses the technology to search for suppliers and offer insights to facilitate informed decisions.
Collaboration with University of Berkeley
Just disclosed today, this news further indicates SAP’s dedication to bringing generative AI integrations to the forefront.6 SAP will offer financial support to graduate students, and in turn the university will provide cutting edge research on AI. In particular, the university’s research will be most strongly focused on the cloud, which ties in to both SAP’s stated focus and its most recent integrations.
